Day 133: May 23, 2010 - Martin Gardner
Martin Gardner inspired me to appreciate the elegance of math. I stumbled upon one of his puzzle books when I was still in elementary level. The puzzles that he introduced were not the typical word problems that one found in school. His was brain-wracking. I remember grabbing the Scientific American in our school library and then jumping to the Gardner’s section to see what other mind-bending problems he would pose. The book photographed above was with me since the 1980s. And to this day I still read it.
Martin Gardner, one of the giants in the field of mathematics, died today. He was 95.
